The hotel lobby gave us the first impression of a chic but yet cosy city hotel. At the BOLD hotel in Munich Giesing, the good impression remained from the lobby to the rooms. Exactly as the hotel is promising on their website, without compromising comfort and style.
I was on this trip together with my friend Sanne (aka Mitzie Mee ) and have pretty similar taste when traveling; a good internet connection with a good bed are at top of the list when staying on a city hotel. This stay was more of a break for me, I had just finished 2 weeks road trip with my kids. A city break during summertime in a European city was more than welcome. We knew we would be exploring Munich slightly more than the hotel itself.
The room had a wooden floor, that made me immediately feel like I had come home. The room itself and the bathroom was very, very clean (I cannot stand to see one stranger hair in a hotel room and here was none). The room was spacious for two with a little desk and a kitchenette and since we had a little terrace (at roof top) with two chairs and a table, that made the room feel even bigger. I was at the terrace and admiring the view even as early as 5 o´clock in the morning.
The interior was decorated with colors and materials that are very much to my taste. Comfy (but not bulky) chairs, pastel colors and brown leather. Nothing extra, every item in the room had it´s purpose. PS. The Nespresso machine was in heavy use 😉
had a nice little bar with a massive coffee machine and a selection of drinks and beers. Yes, we did try out some local beers. The lobby had also some magazines to read and comfy sofas to sit on. In the evenings many board games on the tables and a football table was standing in the corner – hardly ever alone.
There was also items for sale at the lobby, from decoration to creams, each item having a little message of a sustainable living. For me this little pop-up shop became a savior as the day I was checking out, it was raining cats and dogs, so I needed an umbrella. (6 years in the Middle East had made me forgotten to carry one with me). I was able to buy one for 10€, it has to be the biggest umbrella I´ve ever own!
were friendly, relaxed and attentive. Even they were from time to time very busy, were they able to help every guest with a smile and a little small talk.
There was a good selection of pastries and bread to choose from. Many different kind of seeds, fruit salad and muesli made my breakfast complete. Since I´m eating only plant based, I had my thoughts if I would be able to get something else than regular milk with my muesli and morning coffee. It worked out fine, all I had to do was to ask for it. I would add oatmeal option for the breakfast, but then again, maybe people do not want to eat oatmeal while on vacation 😉
The possibility to sit outside on a terrace while having a breakfast makes for an even better start for your day!
I noticed while checking out from the hotel (at the same time as many others) that most of the guests jumped into their cars. The neighborhood doesn´t have much to see, so I would say it is definitely a hotel for those arriving with their car or someone like me who does not mind the walk or a bike ride to the station. The BOLD hotel has an underground garage for the guest cars. This is for sure a convenience for those arriving with a car to avoid the traffic and parking problems in the city center.
The closest train station U- and S- Bahnhof is about 10 – 15 minutes walk away from the hotel, both U and S trains take you to the city centre (Alstadt).
Tram stop for tram 17 is slightly closer to the hotel than the metro. We did not try the tram this time, but while I was discovering the city on my bike, I did notice how well the tram covers the city. Something to try out the next time!
Journey from the airport to the BOLD Hotel Munich Giesing takes a good hour due to train change and a possible waiting time at Ostbahnhof.
Please note, if not carrying enough euros with you, you might have trouble buying a ticket from the machines at some point in some stations with a credit card. Munchen Navigator App is therefore more user friendly.
BOLD Hotel has bicycles for rent (15€/day). I was using a bike for two days in Munich and felt myself as free as a bird with it. You can read my Munich bicycle stories from here: Munich: Around the city with the BOLD bike
Since I was on this trip without my family (read noisy kids), I was able to relax a bit more than usual. For me the BOLD Hotel would be an option even with the kids, especially if arriving by car.
